A lightweight place to think in text
Draftpad is a fast, distraction-free writing space for drafting ideas, checking limits, and refining text without friction. It's designed for moments when opening a full document editor feels unnecessary, but accuracy still matters.
No setup. No accounts. Just a clean surface for writing.
Why Draftpad exists
A lot of writing happens before anything is "official."
Drafts for social posts, email subject lines, notes, outlines, and half-formed ideas often start in places that weren't built for them.
Draftpad exists to fill that gap.
It gives you a neutral, responsive space where you can type freely while seeing the details that matter—character count, word count, reading time—without committing to a heavyweight tool or workflow.
Design principles
Draftpad is shaped by a few simple ideas:
Fast by default
The editor loads instantly and responds as you type. There are no loading states, sync delays, or background processes competing for attention.
Clear feedback
Character limits, word count, and reading time update in real time. When you're writing for specific platforms, you can see exactly where you stand.
Local-first
Your text stays in your browser. Draftpad doesn't require accounts, cloud sync, or external storage. If you close the tab and return later, your draft is still there.
Flexible formatting
Markdown is available when you need structure. You can write plainly, format when ready, and export clean Markdown or HTML with a single action.
Comfortable to use
Light and dark modes are built in and remembered. Draftpad works equally well on desktop and mobile, and can be installed as a lightweight app for offline use.
Practical details
Draftpad is intentionally simple. It focuses on drafting and feedback, not document management or collaboration.
- Platforms: Works on modern desktop and mobile browsers
- Offline: Available after first load when installed as an app
- Storage: Browser local storage (no external servers)
- Cost: Free to use
- Accounts: None required
Common questions
Is Draftpad really free?
Yes. There are no paid tiers, ads, or usage limits.
Is my writing stored anywhere else?
No. Drafts are saved locally in your browser. Clearing browser data or using private browsing will remove them, so export anything important.
Can I use it without an internet connection?
Yes. Once installed as an app, Draftpad works offline.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The interface adapts to smaller screens, with quick access to stats and settings.
Ready to try it?
No sign-up. No commitment. Just start typing.
