About Draftpad

A quiet place to think in text.

A fast, distraction-free surface for drafting posts, subject lines, and half-formed ideas — with the counts that matter kept in view, and nothing to sign up for.

Why it exists

A lot of writing happens before anything is official.

Drafts for social posts, subject lines, notes, and outlines usually start somewhere that wasn't built for them — a reply box, a sticky note, the browser's address bar.

Draftpad fills that gap: a neutral, responsive space to type freely while seeing the details that matter — character count, word count, reading time — without committing to a heavier tool or a whole workflow.

Type first. Keep the numbers in the corner of your eye.

How it's built

Five ideas shape it

Fast by default
The editor loads instantly and responds as you type. No loading states, no sync delay, nothing running in the background.
Clear feedback
Character limits, word count, and reading time update live. When you're writing to a platform's limit, you always know where you stand.
Local-first
Your text stays in your browser. No accounts, no cloud sync. Close the tab, come back later, and your draft is still there.
Flexible formatting
Markdown is there when you need structure. Write plainly, format when ready, and export clean Markdown, HTML or PDF in one action.
Comfortable
Light and dark modes are built in and remembered. It works the same on desktop and mobile, and installs as a lightweight app for offline use.

Common questions

Good to know

Is Draftpad really free?

Yes. No paid tiers, no ads, no usage limits.

Is my writing stored anywhere else?

No. Drafts are saved locally in your browser. Clearing browser data or using private browsing removes them, so export anything you need to keep.

Can I use it without an internet connection?

Yes. Once installed as an app, Draftpad works offline.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. The interface adapts to smaller screens, with quick access to stats and settings.

Who makes it

Made by one person who writes

Draftpad is built by Tola, a developer in Lagos. It started as a personal tool for drafting and checking text quickly, and grew into something useful to other people with the same itch.

Suggestions and bug reports are always welcome at hello@draftpad.app. If it's become part of your day and you'd like to help it keep going, you can buy me a coffee.

Ready to write something?
