Terms of Use
Draftpad is free, has no accounts, and keeps your writing on your own device — so these terms are short. They say what you can expect from it, and what it doesn't promise.
What you're agreeing to
By using Draftpad at draftpad.app, or by installing it
as an app, you agree to these terms. If you don't, the remedy is
simple: don't use it. There's no account to close and nothing to
cancel.
What Draftpad is
A text scratchpad that runs in your browser and shows live writing metrics. It's free, needs no account, and has no paid tier. There is no server behind it: everything you write is saved to your browser's local storage and never transmitted.
Draftpad is maintained as time allows, and is offered free with no support commitment.
Your writing is yours
You keep every right to what you write in Draftpad. No claim is made over it, and none of it is read, stored, or transmitted — it never leaves your browser, so there's nothing to license and nothing to claim.
The other side of that is backup. Because your drafts exist only in your browser, they go when your browser data goes — clearing site data, private browsing, uninstalling the app, a new device, or a browser evicting storage under pressure. Draftpad cannot recover them, because it never had a copy. Export anything you'd be upset to lose.
Using it sensibly
Use Draftpad for anything lawful. Don't attempt to break, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the site or the infrastructure it runs on, and don't use it to do anything illegal or to infringe someone else's rights.
Since nothing you type is transmitted or published, there's no content to moderate — this section is about the site itself, not about what you write in it.
No promise that it stays up
Draftpad is offered as is and as available. It may change, break, or stop being maintained, with or without notice. Features may be added or removed. Because it's installable and works offline, a copy you have already installed may keep working for a while after the site itself changes — but that isn't a guarantee either.
The code and the name
Draftpad's own source code is released under the MIT licence. The third-party components it bundles keep their own licences, which are listed in the project's README.
The Draftpad name and its visual identity aren't covered by that licence. Use the code; don't publish something else as Draftpad.
Third-party links and services
Draftpad links out to a few places — a support inbox, a Buy me a coffee page — and loads fonts, icons and, if you accept them, analytics scripts from other providers. Those services have their own terms and privacy practices, which are theirs rather than Draftpad's. The Cookie Policy names each one and what it sets.
What isn't warranted
Draftpad is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Reasonable care is taken to keep it working and its metrics accurate, but no representation is made that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any figure it shows is fit for a decision that matters. Any reliance you place on it is at your own risk.
Character and word counts are calculated in your browser and are meant as a guide. Where a platform's own limit is what counts, check it there.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, no liability is accepted for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, drafts, profit, or opportunity arising from your use of Draftpad or your inability to use it — including drafts lost from your browser's storage. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Handled separately
What is and isn't collected is set out in the Privacy Policy, and every cookie the site can set is listed in the Cookie Policy. Both form part of these terms.
If these terms change
These terms may be updated as Draftpad changes. The current version is always the one on this page, and continuing to use the site after a change means accepting it.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and any dispute arising from them or from your use of Draftpad is subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Lagos State, Nigeria.
